[Originally first published Eyre & Spottiswode LONDON,1946 and colour illustrated by Dorothy Craigie - Greene's girlfriend at the time.Despite him writing the text,his name does not appear on book or dw/dj - credited to Dorothy Craigie.He was however,to claim authorship of the book later,on the title page of 'The Little Fire Engine',Max Parrish, LONDON,1950.That title was only reissued as by Greene,in 1957.]FINE. Child's handwritten name 'Daniel '6' to top,fore-edge corner of front pastedown,and minus issued dw/dj.Publisher's bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,glazed,colour pictorial artwork by Edward Ardizzone,paper -covered illustrated boards; with capitalised, black-lettered title and other black-lettered author's name to an upper edge's white panel,as is black-lettered illustrator's name to a lower edge's white panel to front board; a yellow spine/ backstrip with similalrlycoloured+ lettered title as front's, other black-lettered author+illustrators' surnames and capitalised, black-lettered publisher's name to foot of same, rear panel with coloured vignetted of train illustration to its centre and no text. Negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners - no nicks,tears or splits present.
